An Example of the "Week at a Glance" Resource

This is a transcribed session with several clients. Mr.G and Mrs.A are the main players. This illustrates the usage of the "Week at a Glance" (WAG) tool.

As can be seen, Mr. G uses writing and drawing to augment his verbal communication. He is becoming a good speller again. Mr. G shared his WAG with a group of people with aphasia. One group member asked the question about the 'shed'. We all participated in the conversation and had a good laugh.

Therapist 1: "What day is your question about?"

Mrs. A: "On Saturday. Saturday he put...4 hours? There's something here."

Mr. G: "Yah."

Volunteer: "And what did he draw?"

Mrs. A: "It's a roof, it's a house. Spent four hours. He made a roof." (laughing)

Therapist 2: "Did you make a roof Mr. G.?"

Mr. G: "No, ah."

Mrs. A: "It says 10x10, yah." (Laughing)

Mr. G: "Yah, but, but–"

Therapist 2: "Do you know what she's asking?"

Mr. G.: "Yah but–"

Therapist 2: "Say it. Yah try."

Therapist 1: "Come on keep trying. Do you want us to guess? Did you do shingling?"

Mr. G: "No. No . . . ?"

Volunteer: "It looks like he made a roof."

Therapist 2: "Yah picture house sorta, roof 4 hours. 10x10. Did you build something? Yah you built something. Oh a shed. You built a shed."

Mr. G: "Yah." (laughing)

Therapist 1: "A roof, did you work on the roof on the shed? Yah great. So it wasn't a house it was a shed."

Mr. G: "Yah."

Therapist 1: "What are you going to put in the shed Mr. G.?"

Mr. G: "Eh?"

Therapist 1: "The shed."

Mr. G: "Oh a lawn tractor."

Mr. M: "Mr. G, put your wife in the shed."

Therapist 1:"Oh for heaven's sake."

(Everyone laughing)
